Help is on the way
Town of Aurora
In 1793, Lieutenant-Governor John Graves Simcoe gave the order for Yonge Street to be extended to Holland Landing. This opened the door to the establishment of a community where Aurora now stands. The first house built in Aurora was Yonge Street and Catherine Avenue.
Aurora has been recognized for historical preservation. In 2008, the town received the Prince of Wales Prize for Municipal Heritage Leadership. In 2009 the town received the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Award for Community Leadership in heritage conservation and promotion.
In 1863, Aurora had 700 residents. In 2016, the population was over 55,000. For more information on Town of Aurora services and amenities, visit www.aurora.ca.
