Since Keswick is on Lake Simcoe, the water levels can be a source of concern. The Town of Georgina has the following warning on its website:
The water level in Lake Simcoe is above average for this time of year. There is an increased potential for flooding of low-lying lands adjacent to the lake. The risk of flooding may be increased in localized areas due to wave action from winds acting on the shoreline. The above average water levels combined with wave action have the potential to cause increased shoreline erosion which may lead to unstable shorelines.
The high lake levels may impact the dykes in the polder areas. Polders are low-lying lands adjacent to bodies of water and protected by dykes.
With the recent water conditions, residents are reminded of the following:
- Be sure to check your sump pump regularly to ensure it is working properly.
- If you do experience flooding in your basement, be minful of electrical hazards that may be present
- Keep ditches, culverts, drains and catch basins free of any debris to prevent any possible flooding
- To report road flooding, please call 905-476-4301
